Incumbent will have good knowledge of tennis related activities, ability to properly teach the sport; ability to establish good working relationships with program participants and staff; ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to provide leadership to participants in instructing tennis classes and tennis related activities; and that ensure tennis activities are conducted in a safe manner at outdoor facilities.

Provides excellent customer service assisting the public with questions and problems in a professional manner.

Communicates concerns and makes recommendations to supervisor regarding participant’s behavioral problems.

Ability to follow a set work schedule, set by the supervisor that is best suited for the Sports Program to include mornings hours June through July.

Ensures that all department and park rules and regulations are enforced and followed at all facilities.

Participates in staff meetings, in-service training sessions and workshops.

Maintains participant attendance records and/or other related records for the tennis program.

Performs general duties, keep financial and activity records, submit periodic registrations and follow all money handling procedures.

High School Diploma or GED; three years or more experience as tennis player in a structured school or private program, experience as a tennis instructor in a school or public/private setting, possess a valid driver’s license issued by state of residence or reliable transportation; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

High school junior or senior student, some college or college degree; background working with at risk population, experience working independently and/or as a part of a team, experience working with individual youth in a group setting, experience working with therapeutic youth, Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills, good customer service skills, excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, good knowledge of computers, good communication skills and ability to work a set morning shift. Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by state of residence or reliable transportation, first aid training and strong verbal and writing skills.
