The City of Manhattan Beach is now accepting applications for a part-time Recreation Specialist (Older Adults) in the Parks & Recreation Department. The Recreation Specialist will assist with the Older Adults Program, which is designed to promote health, wellness, and enjoyment among the citizens of Manhattan Beach and surrounding communities. The position will be required to work evening shifts, weekends, and or holidays.
HOURS: Part-time positions will not work over 960 hours per fiscal year.
JOB FUNCTIONS: In addition to the information provided above, tasks essential for this job may include, but are not limited to, the following: participate and assist with coordinating and evaluating older adult activities such as luncheons, bus excursions, movie outings, recreational classes and other special events; observe all safety and City rules and regulations; display courteous and professional behavior toward the public and staff; and also perform other related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS PRESENTLY:
Training and Experience : High School graduation or G.E.D. is required. College level courses or certification in leisure services, recreation management, physical education, or a related field is required. Two (2) years of recreation and program planning and activity experience is required, preferably including prior leadership work.
License : A valid California Class C driver's license is required at the time of employment and
acceptable driving record is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Knowledge of principles and practices of recreation and leisure services program administration; State and local health and safety regulations; research methods; report writing techniques; contract class offerings and administrative procedures; facility rental practices; marketing techniques; leadership principles; records management practices; customer service techniques.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS : While performing the duties of this class, the employee will be frequently required to stand, sit, or walk within office and activity areas; reach above and below shoulder level to access supplies and materials and lift, straighten, and move tables and chairs and/or equipment to arrange facilities for special events and/or meetings. Positions in this class occasionally lift, move, and carry objects typically weighing up to 40 pounds.
