The City of El Cajon is looking for an individual to assist the Recreation Services Supervisor with the operation and supervision of events at a banquet type community center.
The ideal candidate would enjoy providing customer service, assist with event setup and breakdown, answer public inquiries, handle reservations, and perform basic computer/office duties.
This candidate would derive satisfaction from working with the public to plan and coordinate events. This individual would be detail oriented, organized, creative and able to multi-task. We are seeking a person who presents a professional image, possesses the ability to lead subordinate staff, and follows both written and oral instructions. A Good Motivator Function : Under immediate supervision, to assist with the operation and safe implementation of recreation programs at a community center or park, or provide specialized instruction in a specific area such as dance, gymnastics, fitness, arts and crafts, swimming, tennis, pre-school activities, etc.; and perform related work as required.
Class Characteristics : Operational Directors may have some supervisory responsibilities.
Center Operational Staff: Assists in planning, conducting and evaluating recreation programs and events; Maintains order among center patrons; Issues game equipment; Takes registration for recreation programs; Collects and is accountable for fees for classes and activities; May prepare materials for fund deposits; Assists with set-up and light maintenance of the facility and equipment; May develop various publicity for promotion of center programs and events; Provides information to the public about City-wide recreation events; May assist with scheduling facility use; Upholds City ordinances, policies and regulations concerning City parks; Notifies appropriate agency when compliance is not met; Makes recommendations regarding facility and equipment repairs and safety; May be given specific areas of program responsibility; May assist in training and directing subordinate personnel, developing programs and special events; May act as center director in the absence of the Recreation Services Supervisor or Assistant Supervisor; May assist in interviewing prospective employees in subordinate positions.
Education : Educational achievement equivalent to completion of or currently attending high school. College courses in recreation, event planning or related field are desired for Operational Directors' positions
Experience : Some experience in recreation, office/clerical work, hotel or banquet facilities is preferred.
Special Requirements : Center operational staff and instructors must have ability to obtain a CPR card and First Aid Certificate.

Hours/Schedule: 20-25+ hours per week. Primarily weekdays (Monday through Friday). Must be available to work some weekends, holidays and weeknights.
