Responsible for initiating, planning, coordinating, implementing and supervising a diverse recreational and competitive community wide athletic program for youth and adults.

Essential Duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises (2) full time employees, oversees volunteer coaches, athletic officials and associated personnel required to implement athletic programming.

Coordinates athletic staff and volunteers in the development and implementation of a city operated athletic program to include organizing schedules, synchronizing efforts and assigning duties as needed; provides oversight and support to staff members to ensure the success of program/events.

Responds to inquiries and requests for information from other organizations and members of the public.

Serves as the primary liaison with local sports councils, regional sports committees and national governing bodies for sports on behalf of the City of Killeen.

Prepares and manages annual operating budget and controls finances allocated for athletic activities to ensure the efficient expenditure of funds.

Coordinates fundraising activities to offset operating costs and develop community participation in athletic program; applies for various grants for athletic programming conducted by the City of Killeen.

Produces promotional literature, reports and event materials to support the athletic division; liaisons with marketing and media organizations to promote the athletic program.

Organizes coaches meetings, volunteer training, officials' clinics, and various seminars required to support a vibrant athletic program.
Recruits and trains volunteer coaches for youth sports leagues.

Attends annual conferences to bid on athletic events to be hosted in Killeen; prepares and analyzes bid documents for the procurement of athletic equipment and uniforms.

Maintains a comprehensive inventory of all athletic equipment utilized in the administration of the athletic program.

Participates in the resolution of and maintains a detailed records system of ethical issues, such as conflicts between coaches, parents, officials and league administrators.

Advises area sports clubs on areas such as organization, funding, promotion and regulations to promote additional athletic opportunities locally.

Conducts comprehensive research and surveys to provide greater insight into the efficient operations of the athletic program and to gauge public satisfaction with programs and services.

Provides complex and detailed reports outlining program trends to include but not limited to registration trends, revenue analysis, cost effectiveness of programs.

Coordinates the payments of athletic officials and scorekeepers for services provided.

Develop a master schedule of year round athletic programs to maximize participation and facilities; oversees the rental of athletic facilities by outside agencies.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in recreation or education; and,

Two (2) years experience coordinating athletic programs ; or,

Any equivalent combination of related education and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid Texas driver's license by date of hire.
