Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute is seeking someone to provide recreation therapy and psychosocial education rehab activities that are responsive to the social, physical and emotional & cognitive recreational needs of our patient population. Responsibilities include providing a well-coordinated program of recreational therapy activities which will enable patients to function independently in the community. The successful candidate will have knowledge of the principles, techniques and methods of recreation therapy and of basic statistics and the different kinds of usage of recreation therapy materials and equipment. Have the ability to stimulate and sustain interests of patient's recreation therapy activities as well as the ability to evaluate and report patient progress. Ability to safely operate a state owned motor vehicle to transport patients for community outings.

The work hours are 8:00am-4:45pm with some rotating evenings, weekends, and holidays required. Starting at salary range begins at $35,000; however, salary is negotiable based on experience and current salary. The position opened on 1/25/13 with a minimum five-day posting.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with major studies in Recreation Therapy, Recreational Management, or related field strongly preferred or equivalent work experience.

Experience in psychiatric hospital as a paid Recreation Therapist or Internship placement preferred.

Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) preferred.
