The Recreation Therapist demonstrates critical thinking skills, sound judgment and leadership in the anticipation and planning for the care of the patient. The Recreation Therapist is responsible and accountable for the planning, directing and provision of therapeutic recreation/activities to patients in accordance with the North Carolina Board of Therapeutic Recreation, physician’s orders, and Novant Health - Presbyterian Healthcare policies, procedures, and established standards and protocols, OBRA and JCAHO. Note: C.T.R.S. (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) credentials are required to deliver recreation therapy “to patients with rehabilitative needs” according to JCAHO.
- Education and formal training : Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Therapeutic Recreation preferred; a certificate of therapeutic recreation required to provide ‘recreation therapy’ but not ‘therapeutic recreation/activities to long-term care residents. Current licensure to practice therapeutic recreation in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Therapeutic Recreation when job assignment requires such.
- Work experience : One year of experience preferred.
- Knowledge, skills and abilities required : Knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient(s)’ age. Has the ability to interpret information to identify each patient’s requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs.
