Regular Schedule: 30 hours per week
A vacancy exists in the Woodlawn area, Recreation Services in the Department of Recreation and Parks.

Examples of Duties:
Under close supervision is responsible for the direct leadership of a wide variety of recreation activities and special events in all areas of the department.

Plans, schedules, promotes and coordinates a variety of general activities and special events, both indoor and outdoor.

Recruits, trains and coordinates the work of volunteers and part-time staff .
Participates in grant writing projects.

Develops partnerships with scouts, schools and other community organizations.
Inspects facilities to make certain the structures, areas and equipment are safe, adequate and functioning properly.

Prepares program statistical reports.

Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
Associates Degree or 60 college credits majoring in recreation, education, or a related field, plus at least one (1) year successful experience as a playground leader, recreation leader, recreation specialist, teacher, or work in a closely related field.

(Additional qualifying experience may be substituted year for year for the required education. Additional education in a related field may be substituted year for year for the required experience.)

Licenses and Certificates
Current CPR and basic first aid certification from an accredited institution.

Valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at time of application.

Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education
Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant’s major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Proof of Degree Equivalency
Applicants who have obtained a degree from outside the United States of America are required to submit degree equivalence documentation from World Education Services, Inc. ( www.WES.org )

Preferred Qualifications
College courses in recreation theory and practice, sociology, psychology, and/or educational methods.

Experience with activities such as: music, arts and crafts, nature, dancing, dramatics and club organization.

Recruiting and working with volunteer leaders.

Technology Competencies:
Experience demonstrating basic skills in computer file management and computer software packages including;
Word-processing;
Spreadsheets;
Navigating and working with the Internet and working with printers.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.

Conditions of Employment:
Position requires travel between recreation sites; working evenings, weekends or holidays when necessary; and working a flexible schedule according to program needs.

Applicants selected for an appointment to a position in Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination and drug screen and an employment background investigation, including, but not limited to a criminal background, education, and fingerprint check.
