Central Regional Hospital, a state psychiatric hospital located in Butner, NC, seeks Recreational Therapist to provide group treatment activities for diverse group of multiple ages and diagnoses of patients with varying cognitive and physical levels. Position will participate on a multi-disciplinary treatment team and provide input to the overall treatment planning process for patients. Position assesses patients' needs through assessment, writes goals and objectives, plans and implements psychosocial interventions and other clinical active treatment modalities to address patients' needs, and completes timely progress notes/documentation. Additional duties include involvement in departmental special events, committees, performance improvement activities, service area assignments, and coordination and routine supervision of Recreational Therapy students, interns and volunteers. Position will emphasize intervention strategies that attempt to restore, remediate, on rehabilitate functioning and independence of patients served. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Must be currently licensed as a Licensed Recreational Therapist by the NCBRTL. Prefer (but not required) current certification as a CTRS by the NCTRC. Competencies, experience and sensitivity in developing and implementing active treatment modalities and goals specific to the needs of adult, acute mentally ill population (Examples include leisure education, cognitive thought process adaptive exercise, social skills, problem solving, coping skills, adventure/challenge programs, anger management, co-occurring disorders, sports and recreation skills, and initiatives, etc.). Prefer experience with independent planning, organizing, and facilitating group and individual psychosocial interventions. Considerable knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles, techniques and methods and their application to the Acute Adult population. Ability to evaluate patient progress and present reports to the interdisciplinary treatment team. Ability to coordinate and instruct support staff in carrying out methods and techniques used in providing patient leisure services, resources, and education.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in recreational therapy or therapeutic recreation, which includes an internship and a license to practice recreational therapy by the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy Licensure. Special considerations any credentials or licenses required by a regulatory or accreditation agency/body shall be required in addition to the state's minimum training and experience requirements. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
