Responsible for provision of comprehensive recreational therapy services to the Developmental Disabilities Program at BMNMTC. Participates in treatment team and provides input to the overall treatment planning process
for residents, assesses resident's needs through a variety of recreational therapy assessment tools, writes goals and objectives, plans and implements psychosocial interventions and other clinical active treatment modalities to address resident's needs and completes timely progress notes/documentation.
Additional duties include involvement in departmental special events, committees, performance improvement activities and service area assignments. Weekend, evening and holiday work is required. Flexibility in making schedule changes in order to meet the changing needs of the resident population is expected.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Current certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist by the National Council for Ther. Rec. Cert., and a current license as a Lic. Rec. Ther. by the NC Board of Rec. Therapy. Competencies, experience and sensitivity in developing and implementing active treatment modalities and goals specific to the needs of residents served at BMNMTC.Prefer experience with independent planning, organizing and facilitating group and individual psychosocial interventions; considerable knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles, techniques, and methods and their application to the population served. Ability to evaluate resident progress and present reports to the interdisciplinary treatment team. Prefer experience using a variety of therapeutic recreation assessment and evaluation tools. Ability to coordinate and instruct support staff in carrying out methods and techniques used in providing resident leisure services, resources and education.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in recreational therapy or therapeutic recreation, which includes an internship and a license to practice recreational therapy by the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy Licensure. Special considerations any credentials or licenses required by a regulatory or accreditation agency/body shall be required in addition to the state's minimum training and experience requirements. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
