This part-time position at Central Library provides adult & reference services to a diverse downtown population. The position also coordinates library volunteer activities for the regional library system.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Responsible for serving patrons of all ages, provides reference and reader’s advisory; requires some general department and/or branch duties; occasionally fills in when manager is absent.
Provides much needed volunteers to assigned areas of the library system.
Assists with adult reference and programming and many duties as assigned.
Participates in providing necessary coverage for reference area when library is open.
Provides programming and assistance to adult patrons.
Education, Experience and Skills:
Requires: MLS degree or current enrollment in an MLS program; knowledge of general reference sources (online & print;. strong public service orientation as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills required; familiarity with library automated systems, electronic resources, the Internet and Windows.
Candidate with previous experience supervising volunteers preferred.
Physical Conditions & Work Contacts:
Must have ability to push book trucks, equipment and lift up to 30 pounds and to stand, stoop, bend and carry. Contacts would include department and branch managers, supervisor, library staff, library volunteers and the public.
