Job Title: Referral Lead Revised 12/2012

Reports To: Referral Manager

Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility :
Responsible for the day to day operations of the Referral department including coordinating referring samples and result reporting. Oversee referral samples, results and processes.

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities :
Prepares samples for sending to other laboratories; sends appropriate documentation for proper handling testing and billing.
When necessary, accurately enters results into the laboratory information system.
Assist in writing and implementing departmental policies and procedures under the direction and approval of the Referral Manager and the Medical Director.
Be accessible to provide telephone or electronic consultation to sample issues in accordance with policies and procedures.
Assist in monitoring quality processes within the department, pending log completion, TAT reports, employee productivity.
Communicates with lab operations, customer service and client to identify and resolve client issues relating to the Referral lab operations.
Communicates with IT and database to resolve interface and database issues to improve result quality and operational efficiency.
Utilize the LIS to accurately and effectively report patient results following established procedures, and create statistical reports at a required by accrediting agencies.
Works to reduce costs for referral testing.
Obtains and organizes quality assurance data from referral laboratories.

High School Graduate

5 years experience as a clinical lab technician in the referral department.

Physical Requirements:
Work requires the physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, stooping or performing other
work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) on an occasional basis (up to 15% of time) and frequent walking; or moderate physical exertion (up to 50 pounds) on an intermittent basis (not a routine part of the job).

Environmental Conditions:
Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions or undesirable elements.
May involve exposure to a variety of elements which are potentially hazardous or harmful which require exercise of well defined precautions for protection from injury or illness.
