REGIONAL CONTROLLER

OVERVIEW

The Regional Controller is a senior-level financial management position responsible for providing financial and accounting support, including accounting operations, risk management, financial performance, and driving improvements to streamline and ensure the effectiveness of processes, systems, and operations. The Regional Controller will also be a pivotal business partner, collaborating with Regional leadership to drive strategic initiatives and ensure the alignment and achievement of the Firm’s overall goals and objectives.

The nature of this role requires a combination of the senior level business understanding, along with a willingness to roll up the sleeves and dive in approach.

This position will work closely with the Region management, at the office, industry and service line level, as well as National Finance. The Regional Controller must think strategically and be proactive in identifying problems, recognizing trends, and raising concerns, while at the same time offering potential solutions.

This person will need to bring resources to bear from around the region and firm to solve regional business issues and will strive to continuously improve policies, procedures, and overall financial and operational success of the region.

In addition, this person will be the leader of certain internal groups within the region, including the region’s Centralized billing function.

This position has direct reporting responsibility to the National Controller and receives oversight and direction from the Region Managing Partner and his delegates including, but not limited to, the Office Managing Partners and Assistant Managing Partners of the offices in the Region Leadership Team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

Ensure optimization of value of the regional controller function.

·

Team with Region management and the various Finance and Operations groups on a regular basis to ensure open communication and information sharing, coordination on problem and/or issue resolution, and sharing of best practices.

·

Coach/mentor the operations personnel in the region, including providing performance feedback.

·

Interact frequently with Region Leadership Team and office / operations managers to assist with coordination and improvement of finance-related functions, including monitoring actual results, budgets and forecasts.

·

Serve as the representative of the National Finance & Accounting function within the region when it comes to policies, standards, and reporting.

·

Takes responsibility for his/her project load and work independently, while being able to appropriately communicate with the Region Leadership Team and/or National Controller to ensure agreement on direction of projects, status, issues and issue resolution.

·

Train and develop senior financial analyst, and supervision of the same for the Centralized Billing function, including review of related work product and timely performance feedback.

·

Streamline project processes to improve efficiency, eliminate redundancy, and take advantage of technology, without compromising the integrity of the work.

·

Maintain regular communications with National Finance & Accounting about relevant activities and concerns.

·

Complete monthly region specific reporting and analysis, as well as ad hoc reporting and analysis.

·

Work with practice leaders along with operations to help drive the monthly forecast and reserve processes (including the detailed reserve process) – encompasses analysis and understanding of forecast and reserves for each of the offices within the region.

·

Oversee and manage the annual business planning and budgeting process.

·

Manage the Centralized billing function to ensure billing is done timely and accurately and in accordance with policy.

Also continue to develop controls and processes to enhance group performance and work product.

·

Coordinate preparation and recording of region specific journal entries.

·

Monitor and facilitate clearing of unapplied cash.

·

Ensure client background checks are charged to engagements or tier structures, as appropriate.

·

Assist field personnel in coding invoices, and provide education and direction regarding approval authorities, as necessary.

·

Monitor expense reports, which entails in depth understanding of the expense policy – take corrective actions and raise issues as appropriate.

·

Participates in system upgrades or initiatives, including meeting attendance and feedback on behalf of the Region, user testing and reviews, etc.

·

Responsible for partnering with Region Leadership Team on facility-related matters, regarding space planning and facility costs.

·

Perform other job related duties, as necessary.

·

Attend professional development and training sessions, as necessary.

·

Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict confidentiality in matters that require discretion.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

·

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA desired.

·

Must have at least 7 years or more of progressive accounting operations and finance experience, a significant plus if this occurred from within a large, global, complex professional services firm.

·

Must have at least 3 or more years of successful supervisory experience.

·

Proven and effective business partner with the business acumen and strategic mindset, Regional Controller needs to be a relied upon center of influence and develop “outside the box” solutions.

·

Outstanding analytical, customer service, follow through, project management, organizational, time management, communication and interpersonal skills.

·

Must have ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative environment with all levels of local and national staff; go-to business partner and a hands-on, roll up your sleeves manager.

·

Very adept at using Microsoft Office Suite software programs (Excel, Access, Word, Power Point) and adept at learning new software programs.

·

Able to work both independently and as part of a team.

·

Results oriented; takes initiative.

·

Strong attention to detail.

·

Ability to work additional hours, as needed.

Moderate to light travel.
