JOB TITLE: Regional Quality Manager

JOB SUMMARY :

Manager is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of sustainable food safety and quality processes across regional co-manufacturing facilities as well as at selected supplier, warehouse, and other partners in the CM supply chain. Activities include assessment, auditing, start-up support, process improvement and performance metric management. Provide leadership and act as an interface between corporate CM Quality, plant leaders, partners, other support functions and customers. Manager will monitor key processes which drive food safety, process consistency and product quality. Successful candidate will provide leadership and ensure proper execution of quality expectations within Lemont facility and other designated co-packing operations. The leadership and management of these programs will deliver demonstrable benefits in quality, cost and service to Continental Mills.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND INFLUENCE :
  • Manage and support the following supply and co-pack quality programs:
    • Supplier and Co-packer evaluation and approval processes for new suppliers and co-packers as directed by CM Corporate Quality
    • Ongoing performance management programs for existing suppliers in the areas of service and quality
    • Assist Procurement and R&D with evaluation of current co-packers and suppliers against CM Quality requirements in order to utilize a supply base in any given category that will deliver optimal benefits in service, cost, quality and innovation and technical service
    • Manage complaint processes for designated locations. Investigate and correct quality issues that may negatively impact product quality through plant investigations, troubleshooting, policy/program review, program implementation, and plant assessment.
  • Develop short and longer range performance improvement programs in areas where designated co-packers or suppliers’ performance is falling short of expectations.
  • Support Supplier and Co-packer audit programs, including 3 rd party audits as well as internal audit protocols. Provide follow up to audit reports and corrective actions
  • Manage Supplier, Co-Packer complaint processes. Troubleshoot issues and facilitate issue resolution. Provide technical resources as needed
  • Assist with new product/ projects with suppliers or co-packers. Provide startup support where necessary
  • Drive process improvement initiatives with suppliers and co-packers
  • Provide risk assessment for supply and co-packer base due to changing regulatory or technical issues related to food safety and quality
  • Assist with development of specifications and manage non-conformance issues
  • Maintain accuracy of Supply Quality information and databases
  • Coordinate activities with cross functional impact at CM (Procurement, Operations, R&D, Supply Chain)
  • Provide support for Continental Mills Corporate Quality initiatives that will include active participation in the development and execution of priorities, support of CM facilities that will include auditing, troubleshooting and availability if additional resources are needed.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES :
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal); ability to maintain communication composure with outside agencies
  • Ability to take a stand while working in a team environment
  • Work well within team structure, has the ability to influence without direct control, can sell ideas and articulate business benefit of functional initiatives.
  • Comfortable managing with facts and data vs. subjectivity
  • Ability to influence without direct supervisory control
  • Leadership skills to direct technical initiatives, with the ability to work across functions
  • Experience with quality improvement techniques and tools a plus – Six Sigma, Lean, etc
  • Experience developing, implementing and conducting quailty audits
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Works well under pressure situations and tight timelines

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
  • BS or higher in Food Science, Biology or related degree
  • Of this 5+ years experience, at least 3 years should be plant related experience. Multi-plant responsibility is a plus.
  • Technical knowledge of food safety, quality systems, processing and packaging systems
  • Knowledge of federal regulations and government agencies (FDA, USDA), state and local agency experience
  • Computer skills – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc
  • ASQ certification (CQE, CQM, CQA) a plus
  • Experience managing food safety incidents, corrective actions and root cause analysis.
  • Comfortable managing with facts and data vs. subjectivity
  • Experienced working relationships with suppliers; has the appropriate business acumen to manage supplier relationships.
  • Experience with packaging materials a plus.
