Eaton Corporation located in Marshall, MI has an opening for a Regional Quality Manager-Prelaunch. This position can also be placed in Southfield, MI.

This position will support several of our North American Automotive plant locations.

The primary function of this role is to manage all the relevant Eaton Business System (EBS) tools, Group and Regional Business System (quality specific) requirements to support customer satisfaction into each business unit and regional manufacturing sites. Identify gaps (performance, quality system, etc.) in assigned manufacturing sites (includes Joint Ventures) and technical centers, with site specific actions which are monitored and closed effectively and efficiently. Lead and manage the Regional Quality Engineering resources in ensuring the execution of the Regional Business Systems requirements and activities. Engage the new product quality support team members, mentor the resource and assist in the elimination of roadblocks and the development of standard work. Develop a strategically aligned business management system which meets EQS and customer compliance requirements. Monitor the regional champion’s network, for quality systems, early phases of New Product development, Scorecard (EPM) and customer communications system (IQS) Specifically focus on Pre- Launch, early NPD (new product development) APQP, JV and virtual businesses, business systems, and quality tool deployment.

The essential functions of the position include:
Ensure safe work practices for self, direct and indirect reports, Eaton Tech centers / manufacturing sites and suppliers.
Quality oversight for Advanced Product Quality Planning, early phases (0~3) of PROLaunch NPD. Support the definition of critical to quality elements of a product / process and effectively analyze, assess and mitigate the risks associated with any potential failures by working with the business unit Program Management and APQP quality engineer. Participate on PROLaunch / APQP cross functional teams and ensure proper utilization of the tools, techniques and metrics.
Provide quality oversight on Critical Supplier APQP’s/Launch projects for Automotive North America region. Ensure all appropriate Supplier APQP/PPAP tasks are completed prior to production launch and customer approval. Support strategies to mitigate risks of Supplier PTC during the PROLaunch process.
Provide quality leadership for virtual Eaton manufacturing sites (supplier - warehousing and light assembly) and Joint Ventures (JV). Ensure sufficient quality support for appropriate customer satisfaction, while leveraging necessary Eaton tools that are necessary for continuous improvement and support the deployment of relevant Eaton business system requirements.
Interface directly with the customer on quality when escalated by the plants (Plant and Quality Manager’s) on manufacturing quality issues including reporting, problem analysis and system audits.
Provide quality leadership for process / product control including the identification and implementation of appropriate six sigma / statistical techniques.
Assist the Region (manufacturing / tech centers) in the development, deployment, verification and maintenance of business systems that complies with industry requirements and Eaton Business System practices.
Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Business Management system through continual improvement activities, leveraging Vehicle Group resources (customer specifics requirements, technical center engineering standard work, and program management practices).
Maintain contact with industry trends as they relate to quality system requirements (customer specifics, customer scorecards, industry action groups and relevant functional organizations).
Summarize systemic quality system gaps annually or as required by the business needs. The top 3 issues at a minimum should be addressed as part of the continual improvement process. Plant quality managers should be leveraged to lead and support the closure of these defined gaps. The issues should be shared with the Vehicle Group.
Coordinate and assist in the scheduling of third party and internal quality system audits within the region.
Support the management review process for Business Units and Region
Support Eaton Business Excellence certification throughout Vehicle Group and the region as required
Support the regional quality team in managing the internal auditing processes and other quality management system requirements compliant to the Automotive Group requirements. Ensure that the region has adequately trained auditors to support the Internal and/or Fresh Eyes Audit requirement.
Support the region in identifying gaps in manufacturing quality professional skill sets, and ensure alignment of functional quality competencies to Corporate Quality
Lead and manage the Regional Quality Engineering resources to ensure appropriate execution of the Regional Business and Quality Strategies to achieve business objectives and goals
Perform additional quality support functions as required.

Position Criteria:
Strong background in quality engineering with a minimum of three years experience in quality systems auditing or successful completion of an accredited lead auditor course.
Effective communication skills, ability to prepare and effectively present appropriate materials to various audiences in Technology Centers/Manufacturing Sites, Senior/Middle Management and Customers.
Significant knowledge and understanding of automotive quality requirements including ISO 9000 and ISO/TS 16949.
Preferred Qualifications: (Specific knowledge, advanced degree)
Six Sigma Black Belt Certified
ASQ Certification to CQM/CQE
ASQ Certification to CQA

  • Experience of manufacturing processes such as machining, assembly, heat treat, stamping, etc is preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or Mathematics from an accredited university
Experience: At least five years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with a minimum of three years of Plant Quality or Systems Quality manager experience. Required to be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
