  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing who is State licensed as a registered nurse, required.
  • Two years of experience in nursing, with one of the two years in a geriatric, restorative or rehabilitative nursing, preferred.
  • One year supervisory experience, required.
This position reports directly to the Director of Nursing. The position supervises the professional and non-professional personnel assigned to the unit and provides direct care to residents. In performance of duties, the Registered Nurse is entrusted to assign duties to professional and non-professional staff assigned to unit, assuring a high standard of nursing and satisfaction completion of tasks. Supervise professional and non-professional staff. Supervise graduate nurses, sign records and documentation as required. Assist in orientation of new nursing personnel and reinforces training standards to maintain a high quality of care. With the director of nursing, participate in interviewing, performance appraising, disciplining and motivating of staff assigned to nursing unit. Provide explanation of nursing procedures and assistance to staff to assure ongoing understanding and training. Communicate on a regular basis with the director of nursing regarding observations and suggestions of problem areas, resident and employee activities, concerns, needs, conditions, etc. Observe and evaluate residents’ medical, mental and emotional conditions and communicates significant changes to appropriate staff.

The position further requires an individual with the ability to supervise, motivate and direct staff. Good general nursing skills and proficiency in rehabilitative nursing are necessary. Must be able to enlist the cooperation of unit personnel in other departments. The capacity to maintain good professional relationships with physicians and to relate to patients and families is necessary. This position must possess initiative and judgment in determining needs of residents and in maintaining resident care delivery in conformance with recognized standards. This position requires proven leadership ability, including the ability to model appropriate team behaviors as well as excellent clinical skills. The capacity to maintain good professional relationships with physicians and to relate to patients and families is necessary. The ability to understand and show compassion to senior adults is essential. Good observation skills are required. Must be able to communicate effectively in English with residents and staff. Must be able to read and write English in order to maintain proper records.
