Responsible for educating clients and families in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of diseases.

  • A registered nurse with a valid/current nursing license; Alaska license preferred.
  • Must be able to maintain a professional standard of ethics and nursing practice at all times and observe confidentiality regulations established by BBAHC.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching processes and principles in planning, providing and evaluating optimum health care.
  • Experience, training, and knowledge in physical health education with ability to set up and facilitate health promotion classes and programs is preferred.
  • Employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her specific needs, to provide personalized care.

  • Essential Functions:
  • Provides patient education and information on health assessment, tobacco prevention, disease processes, medications and treatment plans for Kanakanak Outpatient, village settings and the Diabetes Program.
  • Participate in planning activities for the Health Education Department and the Diabetes Program in conjunction with the Health Education Director and the Diabetes Program Director.
  • Plans, implements, and facilitate tobacco prevention and health programs throughout the region.
  • Responsible for following Department procedures and Corporate Polices.
  • Provides in-service education to staff as required.
  • Coordinates and promotes care of clients with other health care professionals in order to improve health.
  • Maintains full compliance with the laws, regulations, grant terms, and BBAHC policies pertinent to the department. Assists department in meeting all applicable accrediting body standards and CMS Conditions of Participation. Actively avoids fraud, waste, and abuse. Seeks methods and activities to enhance BBAHC revenues.
  • Ensures activities align with and support the BBAHC Strategic Plan.
  • Responsible for attending facility in-service training as scheduled.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
