Registered Nurses will be part of the BCFS Emergency Services Division Medical Staffing Team and will respond to natural disasters and public health emergencies. RNs will provide and maintain medical care to shelter guests utilizing a sufficiency of care model. RNs may be required to serve in supervisory roles and to oversee clinical operations and other medical personnel. RNs will be required to attend staff meetings and training sessions when applicable.
Major Responsibilities:
Nurses will be responsible for the daily care of guests in shelters. This may include but is not limited to:
administering medication
establishing IVs
administering injections
wound care
tube changes
O2 therapy
updating medical records
providing emotional support, guest education, basic diagnosis, and other
medical procedures
Other Responsibilities:
Communicate and collaborate with appropriate medical staff and ensure situational awareness is maintained among the Medical Staff unit
Ensure meticulous and comprehensive medical recordkeeping and documentation
Extensive, last-minute travel within the U.S. may be required
Must be able to work 12 hour shifts within a 24 hour operational period for extended periods of time. Shift to be determined based on operational needs and/or command priorities
All personnel will be required to sign a confidentiality statement & abide by BCFS policies and procedures while employed by BCFS
Abide by all appropriate policies & procedures, with an emphasis on strict adherence to ethical codes
Ensure ability to perform in dynamic, fast-paced, stressful environments associated with disaster response
Other duties as may be assigned
Response / Activation:
Participate in Emergency Services Division (ESD) responses as a Medical Staffing Team (MST) member
Maintain readiness and ensure availability to respond when assigned team is on first call
Maintain situational awareness of weather events, disasters or potential disasters around the world
