Under the guidance of the Associate Director for Nursing, the incumbent will demonstrate clinical judgment and skills in the full range of functions of a Registered Professional Nurse. Identifies, assesses (including Physical Assessment) and provides nursing treatment for actual or potential health problems. Performs health assessment and provides primary care to graduate and undergraduate students in the provision of campus health education and the completion of administrative duties. Triages patients' complaints using critical assessment skills to include crisis intervention, acute and chronic medical problems and women's health related concerns. Refers patients for further clinical evaluation and follow-up, either immediate care or future appointment using computerized system. Delivery of care includes administration of vaccines, medications, allergy shots, ear irrigations, urgent care nursing, women's health counseling. Participates in inter-disciplinary committees. Performs telephone triage on nurse clinical symptom line. Engages in periodic self-evaluation, participates in peer review and quality assurance. Work in a collegial/team model which includes RNs, medical assistants, lab staff, MDs, NPs, and Nutritionists. Will be trained in travel medicine in order to provide travel assessment to students which include advice on preventing and managing illness and injury while traveling as well as appropriate vaccines and medications. Performs all duties and services in full compliance with Columbia Health policies and procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant
Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. Requires current New York State RN license and minimum two (2) years recent medical/surgical experience coupled with strong assessment skills. Completion of current CPR course, infection disease/control certificate. Ability to communicate effectively and develop trusting relationships with diverse student population and staff members. Ability to use computer to access electronic medical record and electronic schedule and email.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Hours of Health Service are 8am - 7pm during the academic year. Summer hours are 9am - 5pm. Responsible for covering a pre-determined number of Saturdays during the academic year.
BSN, ambulatory care, emergency room care, triage, or occupational health nursing experience strongly preferred.
