Mercy Procedure Unit (MHB): The Registered Nurse in the Mercy Procedural Unit provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process to care for inpatients/outpatients undergoing diagnostic and/or therapeutic gastroenteralogical procedures and vascular access related care.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM):
Education
· Currently licensed in New York State .
· Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
· Certification – Basic Life Support.
· Certification – ACLS.
Experience
· One (1) year experience in med-surg nursing.
· Either one (1) year experience in GI Unit or one (1) year experience in vascular access (Renal, Invasive Cardiology, and/or Surgery) required.
Knowledge, Skill and Ability
· Participates in educational conferences and upgrades and maintains professional knowledge and skills related to the area of responsibility, maintains confidentiality, understands the legal aspects of the job function, and adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
· Role includes a variety of problems to be solved under general guidelines, and calls for a variety of decisions, some of which are complex and must be referred to a resource person.
· Assists in directing a small group of employees performing similar or related task of semi-skilled nature. Instructs employees, assigns, evaluates performance, and maintains efficiency of staff assigned to him/her.
· Has an obligation to conserve supplies, equipment and time in a cost-effective environment. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Environment
Good mental and physical health. Activity includes lifting, stooping, walking. Hand dexterity and visual acuity to recognize changes in patient's condition. The ability to cope with stress and handle multiple priorities is required. May also be exposed to communicable diseases.
