Job Summary:
Responsible and accountable for direct nursing care on a given unit during a specific shift. Provides comprehensive clinical care and ensures that patient care is delivered in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and National Standards of Care as identified by respective professional organization and the vision, mission, values, goals and scope of care and services of the organization. The Professional Nurses at Winter Haven Hospital practice the Art and Science of Caring as described by the Ten Caritas Processes in Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring: practice of loving-kindness, authentically present with faith and hope, sensitivity to self and others, trusting caring relationships, allowing expression of positive and negative feelings, creative problem-solving, relational teaching-learning, creating healing environments, assistance with basic needs, and allowing for mystery and miracles.

Knowledge & Skills Required:
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail and resolve complex patient care situations
Communication skills, verbal and written needed to document, read and interpret patient information, policies, procedures and to respond and relay information to a variety of clinical disciplines
High level of analytical abilities and problem solving skills
Interpersonal skills required in order to explain procedures, to care for and comfort patients/families
Knowledge of professional nursing care practices and standards

Education & Experience Required:
Completion of an accredited program of professional nursing

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration Required:
Current BLS/Healthcare Provider
Current State license as a Registered Nurse

Physical Demands for Essential Functions of the Job:
Ability to assist with lifting, positioning and transporting patients of varying weights up to 500 lbs.
Ability to bend and stoop frequently during each workday
Ability to walk and stand more than eighty percent of work time
Ability to wear respirator and other protective clothing/equipment in exposure situations and according to unit specific protocols
Visual and auditory acuity to be able to evaluate changes in the patient’s condition
