Responsible for the admission of ER patients in a courteous and timely manner and for securing the appropriate information. Ensures that all incoming and in house calls are promptly and courteously answered and routed to the correct extension and paged according to policies and procedures.

  • Must register patient accurately, timely, with documentation
  • Must verify patient’s insurance and collect and private room deposit and document accordingly.
  • Must serve as PBX Operators from 9:30 p.m. until 6:30 a.m., paging according to policy and procedures.
  • Must handle all incoming and in house calls in a timely manner, using proper telephone techniques.
  • Must be able to interact well with public and staff and promote patient satisfaction.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment under stressful conditions.
    • Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
    • Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
    • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
    • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
    • All other duties as assigned.
    MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Experience required: High school or equivalent. Must be able to type 20 words per minute and be able to use a computer efficiently to register patients in a timely manner. One year in a health care setting preferred. Good communication skills. Must be able to read, write and speak English. Must be able to interact well with public and staff. Must have a pleasant voice and speak with clarity. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

    WORKING CONDITIONS Carry up to 30 pounds, occasionally required to push, pull, bend and lift. Ability to push a wheelchair, assisting with entry or exit. Able to stand, walk, kneel, sit or stoop with good balance for extended periods of time. Vision and hearing normal or corrected to normal. Can write legibly. Must have ability to communicate with others. Mental capability to maintain patient confidentiality 100% of the time. Subject to stress and fatigue. Physical presence onsite is essential. Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range. Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
