TITLE: Domestic and International Regulatory Affairs Specialist FLSA STATUS: Salaried, Exempt REPORTS TO: President Reporting to the President, the Regulatory Affairs Specialist ensures regulatory compliance on brand packaging, marketing materials and other corporate documents and affairs pertaining to labeling and food safety including product export and oversee non-regulatory certifications, legal items as well as any other compliance item regarding product development and release. Essential duties and responsibilities: Provide regulatory advice, guidance and support mainly in the food/beverage and dietary supplement categories by reviewing product descriptions, marketing material, labels and claims to determine compliance with the rules and regulations of federal entities (e.g. DSHEA, FDA, FTC).
Review and comment on all outbound claims for substatiation, including web sites, labels, packaging/graphics, marketing and advertising materials, sales materials and sales messaging to ensure compliance with federal and state food/dietary supplement law requirements and regulations, including statutory prohibitions against misbranded and adulterated foods Assist in drafting, negotiating and reviewing a wide variety of documents, contracts and agreements, both legal and regulatory that strikes the right balance between achieving business opportunities and mitigating risks including registration and regulatory submissions. Oversee transposition of international standards into company product related requirements. Assist in the development of policies and standard operating procedures to implement Good Manufacturing Practices and Adverse Event Reporting. Inspections of processing equipment, facilities and food storage locations.
Seamless partnering with Genesis Today ’s Research and Development/Quality Control team to assist and counsel in the development of policies, procedures, product manuals, legal guidance documents, tools and training materials. Translates formulas for label ingredient statements and transmittals. Completes paperwork such as new product checklist to document all processes. Interpret clinical trial results as needed and research potential ingredients to assist in the development of new and proven claims for products; file those claims with the FDA.
Monitor and research new and existing food laws and related regulatory requirements domestic and internationally. Extensive research including 21 CFR, Dietary Supplements, regulatory compliance items for each state or country as needed, label compliance. Maintains appropriate degree of confidentiality; demonstrates ability to find creative solutions, diagnose problems and create and implement creative action plans regarding escalation of issues when necessary. Aid in the review process of raw material specifications to ensure consistency with food regulatory requirements.
Support all customer, regulatory and third party audits. Investigate, review and respond to a variety of legal disputes including customer complaints. Work with other legal representative to manage issues. Communicate effectively with employees on all levels; demonstrates effective time, organization and prioritization skills.
Keeps HACCP program up to date with new ingredients, processes, equipment or new products. Ability to handle a wide variety of legal and business issues across multiple disciplines. Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines in a fast moving business environment. Delivers results: focuses on the critical few objectives that add the most value and channels own and others ’ energy to consistently deliver results that meet or exceed expectations.
International product registration and regulatory compliance of raw materials, product formulation, labels and marketing collateral, finished good testing, site license set up, registration for importation, etc. (sp. Canada, Korea, Mexico, Russia, U.K., etc.) Manage licensing agreements with raw material suppliers Manage trademark, provisional patent, and all patent process and applications including tracking renewals/ changes to law Perform other related regulatory requirements as requested. Education/Experience Minimum Requirements: To perform this job successfully it is essential to have: Four or more years of regulatory experience in the food industry including juice, beverages, dairy and dietary supplements for a major FDM brand Degree from accredited university preferably in food science, regulatory or similar 2-5 years ’ experience in food manufacturing (specifically labeling) Skills Proven knowledge and application of FDA and FTC guidelines Demonstratable knowledge of labeling compliance and proven collaboration with other departments to remain compliant as well as competitive Extensive experience working on marketing content such as press releases, ads, Trademark and other brand application processes Excellent communication skills (both written and spoken) Extensive and apt research ability Excellent communication skills and attention to detail; proven accuracy Must be able to work independantly Microsoft Office Suite Desired Requirements: Experience with patents and intellectual property Demonstrated self-starter and team building abilities Excellent problem solving abilities and time management Works well under pressure and fast-paced, deadline oriented environment Excellent speaking skill and ability to provide presentations About Genesis Today: Working for Genesis Today is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
