We’re looking for a high performing, self-motivated Release Engineer to manage our Lodging System software lab environments. This is a great opportunity to join an innovative, fast-paced organization that supports Expedia’s Lodging systems at an international level. These systems consist of a large number of servers that make up several environments which include multiple databases, third-party and custom-built software applications. We’re looking for someone who has a broad technical skill set and past experience implementing build and deployment infrastructure solutions in Windows 2003/2008 environments. You will also be responsible for helping to define, implement and enforce strong software build, deployment and configuration management processes.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter and team player, a strong driver for results, and a champion of continuous improvement.
Primary Responsibilities include :
Provide troubleshooting/support for all lab environments in your domain for builds and deployments.
Maintain build environments that facilitate efficient builds of software.
Develop processes for and ensure efficient deployment of software from development to test to release.
Ensure software / feature / version parity for dozens of systems throughout the lab environments.
Participate in architecture discussions and planning for new and existing installers.
Plan and automate build and install processes and support project release process.
Recommend and maintain technology related policies and procedures.
Develop and maintain internal documentation.
Proactively identify top performance bottlenecks and work with cross-functional teams to bring rapid, effective resolution.
Provide technical expertise in identifying issues that impact service delivery.
Establish key monitors to insure performance SLAs are met by analyzing, interpreting and summarizing performance data and metrics.
Evaluate performance trends and expected changes in demand and capacity.
Identify performance issues at multiple layers of deployment, from hardware, operating environment, network and application.
BA/BS degree in technical field or related discipline preferred
5+ years of IT experience in a professional technology organization (preferably ecommerce), working with build, deployment and release-related technologies.
Experience with Source Control Systems (i.e. Perforce, ClearCase, Subversion)
Build/Deployment Configuration Management experience
Exposure to SQL Server database server environments, preferably SQL 2005+
Proven experience with scripting languages – preferably PERL, VBScript, Batch
Experience working in Windows 2003/2008 Enterprise environments.
Experience managing with and/or implementing server virtualization (VMWare, Hyper-V) is a plus.
Familiarity with Linux operation systems in an enterprise environment (preferably CentOS or Red Hat) is a plus.
Hands-on style – willing and competent in producing necessary changes in our infrastructure and processes.
Solid understanding of security fundamentals as they pertain to ecommerce application
Experience with performance tuning
Assertive – position will require ability to influence teams to make the necessary changes in order to improve our build / release procedures.
Ability to balance conflicting requests from multiple teams
Identify creative solutions for technical support issues - flexibility is key here.
Proven track record of leading teams through change.
Able to work effectively across organizational boundaries.
Able to lead diverse teams, multi-task, and work under pressure to meet aggressive schedule targets.
Must be highly organized and detail oriented
