As a member of the Infrastructure Services team, the Release Engineer has primary responsibility for implementing and maintaining the Software Change and Configuration Management tools for zOS, Distributive Systems, and Oracle PeopleSoft. The SCM Administrator ensures the functionality of the deployment process by defining and maintaining work flows, process streams, project definitions, and automated process rules.
The Release Engineer utilizes organizational skills for managing, sequencing and scheduling of tasks and activities with an emphasis on coordinating work as well as release process compliance. Provides expert level knowledge to application teams with respect to the infrastructure mechanics of the Release Management process. Has responsibility to build, manage and execute the Release Management processes including managing the project and technical aspects of how releases are deployed into production.
Bachelor's degree in the field of computer science, information systems and/or equivalent combination of work and experience Minimum of eight years experience, including at least three years experience working in a SCM capacity. Prior QA experience a plus. Demonstrated experience with release, build and deploy tools in the mainframe, Windows and UNIX/Linux environments. Demonstrated experience with IBM Rational Team Concert and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager. Previous experience with software configuration and change management (SCM) tools. Demonstrated experience with ITIL Release and Deployment best practices. Familiarity with IBM mainframe software architecture such as z/OS, LPARS, dataset structure, delivery services, JCL and compiles. Fundamental knowledge in various technical areas is required (Enterprise networks, server hardware and operating systems, WEB servers, applications servers, database systems, etc.). Working knowledge with Distributed System Software architecture such as Microsoft and Linux OS, solution stacks, SQL, XML, shell scripts and WEB development concepts. Shift work required to manage releases outside normal office hours. Demonstrated Customer Service skills working with diverse customers and clients in problem solving and recommending solutions. Interpersonal skills and initiative demonstrated by ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and ITS teams, responding positively and proactively as required. Demonstrated ability to analyze a problem, develop an action plan and secure a resolution. Excellent communications skills; both written and verbal as demonstrated by the ability to communicate clearly and logically using appropriate grammar and vocabulary. Builds relationships with peers to achieve objectives. Balances team and individual responsibilities. Exhibits objectivity and openness to others' views. Gives and welcomes feedback. Ability to balance conflicting needs among various cross-functional teams. The ability to establish effective working relationships; to build collaborative partnerships with customers and cross-functional business partners. Familiarity with ITIL v2 or v3 best practices. An understanding of Collaboration Tool Concepts and Microsoft Office Suite tools.
