Position Purpose

Release Management is growing discipline within software engineering of managing software releases.As software systems, software development processes, and resources become more distributed, they invariably become more specialized and complex. Furthermore, software products (especially web applications) are typically in an ongoing cycle of development, testing, and release.The need therefore exists for dedicated resources to oversee the integration and flow of development, testing, deployment, and support of these systems. As a member of the Hosting Team, this role is responsible for managing and driving adherence to ongoing service levels for hosted clients, as well as participating in the various client project engagements.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

Manage the release process throughout the project delivery lifecycle

Schedule and manage Preproduction deployments through collaboration with the project management and development teams

Schedule and manage Production deployments through collaboration with the project management and development teams

Coordinate with development teams to gather and package code for deployments

Serve as liason for issue resolution between development, QA, and project management teams

Enforce release process by ensuring compliance and necessary approvals for each step of deployment

Responsible for managing and driving adherence to ongoing service levels for hosted clients

Consult with project teams on release impacts of client solutions

Documentation & escalation of unplanned service interruptions and monitoring site behavior post release

Other responsibilities as assigned

Nature and Scope

Reports to the Director IT Ops

Job Requirements

The release manager role requires customer skills as well as research and troubleshooting capabilities. Must be available for 24x7 on call support.

Education Required

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

Years of Relevant Experience

2-4 years

Preferred Qualifications

Flash, HTML, & .NET exposure

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies

Knowledge of all aspect of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

Familiar with Agile development methodology

Understanding of web technologies and platforms

High level understanding of tier application architectures including server side code and DB

Strong organizational skills

Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate with multiple functional groups

Excellent problem resolution, decision-making skills, & the ability to work under aggressive deadlines

Must possess technical experience with the ability to quickly learn new systems and technology
