Weekly Reporter/Page Designer
Lost amid the downturn in the newspaper industry is the increasingly important role of local weekly newspapers. If you want to be involved in relaying information people can’t find on Yahoo! or CNN, take a look at Unified Newspaper Group. Our company comprises three weekly newspapers and four websites devoted to goings-on in Stoughton, Oregon, Verona and Fitchburg. These are places where people are passionate about what’s happening in their communities.
All of our reporters need to be able to write, edit, photograph, paginate with InDesign and be able to cover any sort of story, from police and government to features. But we’ll play to your strengths, and we’ll give you top-notch mentoring to round out any weaknesses you might have. We have a strong newsgathering organization that’s looking for talented journalists who love to tell stories about people and know how to relay important news in a way that people can understand. Our reporter/paginators all report to a single editor, who devotes a good chunk of his time to staff development.
The job is 39 hours per week, with health, dental, vision and paid vacations. The company is part of Woodward Community Media, a division of Woodward Communications Inc., an employee-owned company based in Dubuque, Iowa.
