Performs specialized work in conducting original research. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions
Have the ability to perform a wide range of research activities that require attention to detail and accuracy. Candidate will serve as the principal agent for ordering laboratory supplies and equipment; maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment; maintenance of equipment, chemical, and sample inventories and billing for laboratory services.
The successful candidate will coordinate laboratory activities, equipment usage and be involved in training undergraduate and graduate students in various laboratory techniques.
The individual will work closely with faculty on scheduling and preparations of the facilities for teaching and research. Develop and validate new procedures as needed by faculty and students.
Instruct students in analytical techniques, laboratory safety and equipment/instrument usage.

Occasional Duties
Candidate will be responsible for assurance that laboratory meets critical quality control standards for the University. The candidate will also serve as the Emergency Maintenance contact for cold storage facilities.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree particular field of science or engineering, One year research experience. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof.
This is a Security Sensitive Level I Position: Applicants for this position will be subject to a criminal background check and may be required to be fingerprinted.

Preferred Qualifications
MS degree with 2-3 years of laboratory experience.
Knowledge and understanding of proximate analyses, spectroscopy, separation chemistry (gas and liquid chromatography, mass spectroscopy, HPLC ), nucleic acid isolation and detection (including familiarity with real time quantitative PCR ), and/or protein isolation and quantification experience preferred.
Experience in the coordination and execution of consumer and trained panel assessment of food products would also be advantageous.
Proficient use of statistical analysis software is favored.
