The Capital Markets Group supports C|A’s global investment consulting and research practice through collecting, maintaining, and disseminating data and charts related to the financial markets. Our small team works in a quality-focused, service-oriented environment to efficiently generate accurate and timely charts, data feeds, back up files, and other analysis to support research and consulting personnel across an array of departments. In a typical week we respond to more than 100 requests for information; in a typical month we update over 300 charts. We also maintain a number of proprietary applications to disseminate data internally and to clients.

The Research Associate position offers exposure to a wide variety of data sources, as well as the opportunity to learn the key metrics and charts for a number of different asset classes and to develop advanced skills in complex Excel functions. Successful individuals in this position are resourceful, comfortable working with large data sets, committed to accuracy, and customer service-oriented.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Support the firm’s data needs by collecting, entering, and maintaining index and other market data in spreadsheets and in our proprietary applications
  • Assess data retrieved for data integrity; sort/segment data for further analysis by other departments or other team members
  • Update standard charts for use by other departments, ensuring accuracy of data, methodology, and presentation; maintain administrative information associated with charts
  • Respond to and assist in responses to ad hoc requests from internal staff and clients, upholding our high standards for customer service
  • Perform regular quality checks on data and analysis
  • Research new sources of data and become familiar with various data publications and vendors to assist the group in continually expanding data coverage
  • Assist research staff by sourcing data, preparing charts, and conducting data analysis
  • Regularly evaluate internal processes to correct inefficiencies, ensure accuracy, and improve communication
  • Perform additional duties as necessary to support the group’s and the firm’s needs

Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree; 1-3 years similar experience preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills
  • High level of curiosity and motivation
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to work additional hours when necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and with a group
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment
  • Interest in investments, capital markets, and macroeconomics; background in these areas preferred. Familiarity with Bloomberg, FactSet, and Thomson Datastream a plus
  • Ability to collect, correlate, and analyze large amounts of data; advanced knowledge of Excel a plus
