Role Purpose/Accountabilities:
Role purpose:

- The purpose of the Research Associate is to lead the execution of corn and soybean trials, strictly follow HSE and Stewardship practices, provide quality yield and agronomic data to assist scientists in delivering project goals, as well as to support site management with the functional activities of a research station.

- Functioning as an integral member of a Trialing Team responsible for packaging, planting, cultivating, pollinating, data collecting, and harvesting yield trials, breeding nurseries and isolation topcrosses.
- Provide quality yield and agronomic data within the scope of trialing primarily supporting corn and soybean development.
- Follow all USDA and EPA compliance regulations and Syngenta Stewardship guidelines.
- Oversee tasks completed by third-party labor to ensure accurate results.
- Effectively communicating regularly with peers and supervisors regarding the status of projects and work activities.
- Support efforts to maintain integrity of seed inventory, packaging, field layout, seed processing and data collection.
- Performing all tasks and behaving in a manner compliant with and in support of all safety related company policies and practices, including completing all required company training courses and attending local safety meetings.
- Assist in maintenance and upkeep of specialized equipment, field machinery, and company vehicles allocated to the program.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Critical knowledge:
- BS/BA degree in an agricultural related field or an AS with a minimum of 4 years of comparable agricultural work experience.

Critical experience:

- Experience in operating agricultural machinery, and or agricultural research equipment.
- Agricultural research experience or agricultural background preferred.

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities:

- Ability to use MS Office, especially Word and Excel, and other standard office software.
- Ability to learn and use proprietary breeding management software systems (SPIRIT).
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a team and to communicate with individuals throughout the organization.
- Ability to use professional concepts and company policies and procedures to solve a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways.
- Ability and motivation to learn new technologies.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License and have, or have ability to acquire and maintain a CDL. Have or have ability to acquire a pesticide applicators license, and forklift operator’s certification.
- Ability to learn and perform maintenance. Ability to operate farm machinery and field research equipment including tractors, planters, and combines. Ability to operate seed laboratory equipment including seed conditioning machines, seed counters, and other tools necessary for agricultural research projects.

Additional Information:

- PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Capable of working in high or low temperature conditions in the field or greenhouse. Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. Capable of working long hours during time-critical periods of the research cycle. - Potential allergens-pollen, fungal spores, chemical pesticides in field or greenhouse. Exposure to high and low temperatures, sun, rain, and dust.
- Domestic travel required with occasional overnight stays. Travel outside continental U.S. may be required. Stays at off-season nursery locations for two to three weeks.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
