Research Associate I (Entomology)
The Research Associate I will be housed at the USDA-ARS Beneficial Insects Introduction Laboratory (UD Stearns Laboratory) which is located on South Campus. He/she will participate in host specificity evaluations of insect natural enemies of the invasive brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) under the general direction of USDA project scientists.
Duties are varied and will include:
Field collection and laboratory culture of BMSB and other insect species.
Conducting behavioral experiments and detailed observations of insects in the laboratory.
Assist in reviewing scientific literature relevant to the project.
Assist in data analyses and preparation of scientific reports and presentations.
A substantial part of the work will be conducted inside the USDA Quarantine containment laboratory.
Bachelor’s degree and one year related experience. Associate’s Degree and three years’ related experience can substitute for required education and experience. Degree in biology, wildlife, or ecology preferred.
Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.
Knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies.
Ability to make independent decisions and judgments in keeping with the level of the position.
Ability to plan, prioritize, balance, and review a variety of projects simultaneously.
Effective interpersonal and communications skills.
Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Basic statistics experience preferred.
