Job Summary:
This position is responsible for performing complex and varying bench research laboratory procedures. This position performs laboratory protocols, interprets scientific data, writes laboratory reports and may coordinate laboratory team experiments. This position may be delegated as a lead for other associate level staff.

Essential Functions

Performs various complex and original laboratory tests in a controlled environment and in accordance with standard scientific practices.

Writes up comprehensive laboratory test results based on interpretation of scientific data. Conducts research on results, utilizing scientific journals, in order to prepare data interpretations.

Utilizes appropriate lab equipment and implements established procedures.

Assists senior staff with the development and documentation of research protocols for assigned experiments.

Assists in the compilation of data for manuscripts and grants in specified scientific areas in order to obtain funding for further research.

Actively participates in regular lab meetings in order to receive and/or convey information.

Performs tests (e.g. incubation) by prioritizing various grant application requests from funding agencies and/or recent overlapping publications by others in the field of study.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a thorough working knowledge of scientific laboratory practices as normally demonstrated through the completion of a High School diploma with college courses in Science, Chemistry, or related areas.

Experience typically gained through a minimum of three years biomedical research laboratory experience. Must be able to follow instructions and protocols. Incumbent must maintain absolute confidentiality regarding specimens and the findings associated with the laboratory functions. Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of medical terminology in order to read, identify, and extract pertinent data from laboratory records and information. Excellent decision-making and problem solving skills. Must be able to multi-task and re-prioritize duties as needed. Excellent human relations, organizational and communication skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Chemistry, or related field.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
