DUTIES: Back to top As Research Biologist you will:
  • Use existing theory and state-­of-the-art methods as well as creative abilities in his/her planning.

  • Develop experimental protocols on approved projects, selects methods of approach and techniques to be used.

  • Consult with members of the professional and technical staff in the design of modifications or adaptations where indicated.

  • Develop or modify existing standard operating procedures for all laboratory techniques used.

  • Apply new methods, approaches and technology to new and unusual situations.

  • Recognize unfruitful as well as promising research areas and advises the Lead scientist concerning these areas and appropriately modifies the research in a manner which is mutually acceptable.

  • Participate directly in all phases of the complete research process including problem definition, planning, execution, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of findings.

GS-11: S uccessfully completed 4-years of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

Combination of education and experience -- Courses equivalent to a major in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Additional Qualifications:

In addition to meeting the Basic Qualification Requirements, Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-9 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience conducting studies related to laboratory-based translational research studies.

Substitution of Education For Experience:

Master's or equivalent graduate degree that is directly related to the duties of the position.

Combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
