Cargill's Biotechnology Development Center (Bio TDC) creates, develops and supports products and processes for fermentation, food, feed, and industrial markets. These advancements enable Cargill to fully benefit from improvements in enzyme and microbial biotechnology.
The Cargill BioTDC in Eddyville, IA has an immediate opening for a Senior Fermentation Biotechnologist to work as a member of its Bioscience Team. This position will provide technical leadership and support for fermentation development, optimization, and other bioscience related projects to Corn Milling and other Cargill business units (BUs). A successful candidate should have the ability to work independently and with team members to carry out laboratory work relating to fermentation development under tight deadlines, and to accurately analyze data and clearly report results in a timely fashion. The candidate should also be able to keep current with scientific and patent literature, and to readily integrate new information as well as basic principles and concepts of fermentation development, process improvement and microbial physiology to projects.
Independently plans, designs and conducts experiments; Collects and processes data; Interprets and reports results within the department and to clients. Provides hands-on approach to experiments. May work independently, or lead a team of colleagues. Projects may include new product development, fermentation optimization, scale up, or production support.
20% - Project leadership including design, execution, and reporting. Provide thought leadership in designing experiments and mentoring other team members to align with BU objectives.
10% - Stays current with scientific and patent literature and seeks new opportunities within the project scope.

Ph.D. degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related bioscience field
Deep knowledge and experience in fermentation development, industrial process improvement and microbial physiology
Knowledge and experience in developing fermentations for bio-products
Documented ability to design, carry out, and report (independently and in collaboration with other members of project teams) experiments, results, and conclusions
Experience working in a team setting with internal and external collaborators
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
Effective interpersonal and team skills
Flexible, organized, ability to handle multiple priorities
Demonstrated awareness of safety
Detailed knowledge of microbial physiology and metabolism
Experience in enzyme utilization, and/or biotransformations
Experience with media optimization
Knowledge of Intellectual Property protection
Analytical skills particularly in carbohydrate chemistry
Experience with statistical process evaluation
Knowledge of enzyme applications particularly in an industrial setting.
Experience with a variety of microorganisms, including yeast, bacteria, and fungi
