ORC International has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Director in our Chicago Client Service Center. We’ve moved to a brand new office in downtown Chicago, and are excited to have smart, hard-working professionals come and work with us!
This position has overall responsibility for the design, budgeting, scheduling, direction, analysis, cost management and delivery of large market research projects. The key focus will be running a very large, multi-faceted tracking program. This position will also be accountable for ad hoc studies. This position has substantial client contact of a strategic nature and involves supervision of others and managing one or more of our key accounts.
Primary Position Responsibilities:
Oversee entire research process to ensure outstanding client satisfaction
Deliberate with colleagues and clients regarding conceptual and practical marketing research issues
Develop studies using highly customized research designs and methodologies to address client business needs
Prepare accurate budgets; employ strategic pricing
Specify and interpret the output of advanced analyses as appropriate, given research objectives
Manage the overall conceptualization, content and execution of questionnaire development, including being conversant in developing survey instruments from proposals and client discussions
Assure high quality research by identifying potential problems and developing and implementing appropriate corrective action
Perform logic checks of the information presented on tables/graphs and other client deliverables
Manage project costs by identifying potential financial problems and assisting in the development and implementation of corrective action
Analyze and conceptualize data to meet research objectives and develop powerful business insights
Prepare and present well-organized and insightful analytical reports, PowerPoint decks, and presentations that deeply resonate with clients
Conduct client meetings (in person and via telephone) and assume the role of the primary client contact for key programs
Assume a leadership role in identifying and building staff resources, mentoring junior staff on project management and research skills
Actively and independently lead projects from design through all aspects of quality control, analysis and execution
Able to direct and advise on research
Able to create successful proposals
Strong data visualization skills in PowerPoint, Excel and Word
Can comfortably take a consultative approach to client service, project work (e.g., pushing back to optimize informational solutions)
Able to manage work of the client base
Able to manage clients and grow relationships
May require travel
Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
Ability to direct and supervise all aspects of a research project
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Capable of interfacing effectively with clients
Ability to manage many complex projects
Ability to work cooperatively with other individuals at all levels throughout the organization, including senior executives
Demonstrated ability to perform higher level analysis and to manage complex data processing requests
Conversant with advanced design and analyses (e.g., experimental design, choice experiments and analysis, multivariate statistics, etc.)
Exceptional leadership capabilities
Broad experience across business sectors: healthcare, health insurance, financial services, consumer services/CPG, technology & telecom, and industrial
Capable of handling difficult client situations in a tactful and professional manner
Strong analytical thought and problem-solving skills
Outstanding organizational and time-management abilities
Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills
Excellent Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
Education, Experience, and Certification:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required; Master’s degree in relevant field preferred
At least five to eight years of professional market research experience is required
Supplier side experience required; mix of client and supplier experience preferred
Demonstrated experience at building relationships with existing clients is required
Experience in insurance, healthcare, or customer/customer strategy research preferred
