This position is located at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP), Division of TB Elimination (DTBE), Laboratory Branch (LB), Atlanta, Georgia.

As a Research Microbiologist, you will:
Serve as team leader to lead and guide professional staff in operations research, partnership development, and oversight of cooperative agreements
Analyze and review data from cooperative agreements and grants with external partners
Collaborate with internal and external partners to provide expert scientific advice pertaining to the laboratory diagnosis of tuberculosis
Prepare reports used for key management decisions
Apply scientific methods, approaches, and technology to new and unusual situations pertaining to laboratory systems for the diagnosis of tuberculosis

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:Applicants must have:
A. Degree in microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent from an accredited college and/or university.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience planning and conducting operational and translational public health research focused on laboratory systems.

You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
