General Summary

This position is responsible for collaborating on projects with external agencies, analysis, research, and developing and managing research projects. Under direct supervision of the President of the Tennessee Health Institute, a division of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, the incumbent will be expected to complete administrative tasks and follow procedures for research. The incumbent will also be expected to produce papers worthy of being published in scholarly research journals. The incumbent will also be expected to represent Blue Cross Blue Shield positively throughout collaboration with the community.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Serves as a liaison between the company and community by conducting interviews with community leaders to gather information and feedback on projects.

Analyzing data/statistics to ensure valid and quality research; organize data into a presentable format

Manage and prioritize research projects; Support President of Health Institute on other research projects

Present summaries of results to illustrate health issues influencing members.

Summarize results through the creation of graphs, tables, and reports

Obtain peer reviewed journal articles to produce research relevant to health issues of Tennessee

Interact with other departments to ensure compliance with federal laws and company policies when submitting for publication

Ability to research and write technical and topical oriented papers

Public and internal presentation



Bachelors Degree in related field or equivalent years of work experience. Equivalent years of experience are defined as a year of professional experience for every year of college requested.

Masters degree is preferred.

Strong academic record, 3.0 or higher undergraduate GPA.

Course work in statistical analysis


Research and analysis experience required

Familiarity with healthcare laws/regulations such as HIPAA

Research experience within the social science field is a plus.


Proficiency of SPSS/PASW statistical software

Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

Technical skills within the field

Ability to process multiple projects simultaneously

Strong written and oral communication skills are required

Critical thinking skills are required

Writing samples will be required
