DESCRIPTION

Research Laboratory Manager will manage the planning, execution and overall performance of the research facility and be responsible for the daily operations including both administrative duties and direct involvement in the research endeavors of the lab.

This position is responsible for managing staff, volunteers and service providers in the delivery of day-to-day operations. The Research Laboratory Manager will provide oversight for a broad range of service activities including, but not limited to: business operations and planning, compliance, facility and laboratory equipment maintenance, soft services (housekeeping, shipping & receiving, etc.), security, and environmental, health and safety compliance.

The Research Laboratory Manager is expected to remain current in the technologies used in the lab, participate in improving operations of the lab, both administratively and clinically, and to recommend and implement changes.

DUTIES

  • Coordinate and oversee the work of research personnel to implement research schedules and ensures the quality of processes and procedures
  • Supervision, training and orientation of in-house Research Assistants
  • Responsible for on-site monitoring and filing, and ensures accurate record keeping
  • Oversee adherence to research protocols and regulations
  • Ensure the environment and equipment are safe, compliant and effective
  • Manage all equipment, inventory and responsible for ordering common lab supplies
  • Ensure all equipment is well maintained, with development and implementation of systems designed for tracking maintenance, and training staff in proper usage
  • Troubleshoot analytical instruments and method performance
QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a Masters Degree (doctoral degree preferred). Life sciences disciplines preferred.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state regulations and guidelines
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral are required. Contract negotiation/execution and project management skills are strongly preferred.
  • Ability to focus strategically while maintaining a tactical/operational focus is required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment of professionals with diverse skills and competencies spanning business and technical areas is required.
  • Individual must work well in a dynamic environment and be able to recommend and implement actionable process improvements, work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to adapt emerging best practices and industry innovations.
  • Must be able to lead diverse teams through change and transformation.
  • This position involves contact with children. The successful candidate will be screened through the New York State Central Child Abuse Register prior to assuming any duties that will involve contact with children. There is a $25.00 fee for this service which must be paid by the successful candidate.
