DESCRIPTION

This position is of a Research Scientist in a neuroscience laboratory, in which rodent preparations are used to model pathogenic mechanisms and treatment targets in mental illness.

DUTIES

The work focuses on using in vitro electrophysiology to probe neural cellular and circuit function. Research responsibilities will include varying combinations of the following: brain slice electrophysiology, optogenetics, biocytin labeling, fluorescence imaging, and data analysis.

The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational and communication skills. All data obtained must be recorded in detail, including a record of animal husbandry and stocks or other reagents generated. The ideal candidate will also have experience in preparing and presenting reports of data.

QUALIFICATIONS

PhD level education in Neuroscience. At least 2 years of experience in all of the above-listed techniques is a must.

Extensive postdoctoral experience with patch clamp techniques for brain slice electrophysiology is required. Applicant will be expected to also have excellent organizational skills, keep detailed records and aid others in the laboratory with data management. He/she should be able to work on a flexible schedule, including some weekends and evenings.
