Scope of Position :
Individual contributor in the SEM / Image Analysis Department supporting the characterization needs of the Science and Technology community.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Individual contributor with a specialty in image analysis, electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy and optical microscopy. Sample prep. Contribute as part of a team to project planning, problem solving, and engage in discussions to address characterization needs of the Science and Technology community. Participate in internal and external collaborations as necessary, including collaborations with universities and national laboratories. Documentation of results and intellectual property.
Travel Requirements: Typically less than 5%
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hours with occasional longer hours in evenings or weekends.
Minimum BS in Material Science or related field.
Required Years and Area of Experience :
3-5 years of experience
Fundamental understanding of image analysis, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy and optical microscopy. Sample prep. Broad and extensive knowledge in the characterization of materials by various microscopy techniques. Technical flexibility to solve a wide variety of characterization requests. Ability to multi-task. Drive to get things done, and willingness to attend to the details of getting things done. A desire to "push the envelope" for continued technical growth in the department. Interest in both basic and applied research. Ability to work in an R&D environment where objectives may sometimes be ambiguous and dynamic. Good technical communication skills, both verbal and written.
Computer Programming skills Experience with image analysis software. (Image Pro, Image J etc.) Strong Math/Statistics Background. (Minitab, Matlab, Jump etc.) Experience with advance electron beam techniques. (EBSD, EBIC,Cathodoluminescence etc.) Experience and /or technical understanding of other characterization techniques that are complementary to SEM / IA. (X-ray Diffraction, Scanning Probe Microscopy etc.)
Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership):
Ability to work independently, without detailed direction. Ability to learn from subject matter experts and grow. Open and engaging with customers. The ability to influence, negotiate and collaborate. Results oriented. Ability to work as a team player and with diverse teams.
