Applied Molecular Evolution (AME) a wholly owned subsidiary of Eli Lilly and Company is a leader in applying directed molecular evolution to improve patient outcomes. Since its inception, AME's principal focus has been on applying its proprietary AME system technology platform to the full range of protein therapeutic candidates including antibodies, cytokines, hormones and enzymes to develop novel human biotherapeutic candidates. While geographically separate, AME works closely with Lilly colleagues in Indianapolis and around the world, sharing a corporate legacy of integrity and commitment to quality that spans more than a century. This is an opportunity for an independent self-motivated researcher to join the Lilly Biotechnology Center in San Diego. Our research group conducts protein engineering and in vitro research to support early drug discovery programs. We are seeking a cellular and molecular biologist in the Protein Expression Group to assist in the expression of novel therapeutic proteins and to develop new systems that will expand the expression capabilities at AME/Eli Lilly.
Proficient in bacterial, yeast and/or mammalian expression of novel therapeutic proteins, vector design and construction, and determination of cell line productivity assays
Individual will work closely with the Protein Engineering and Purification groups, ensure efficient production of reagents and therapeutic proteins for pre-clinical testing.
Responsible for the optimization of protein yields at production levels from shake flasks to bioreactors.
Demonstrate strong problem solving skills, a clear knowledge of experimental design and data analysis and an ability to present data and summarize conclusions in written and oral forms will be considered.
Cell based assay development and execution are often required to support the engineering process. Experience with protein engineering, reporter cell based assays, automated liquid handlers, and metabolic diseases is desired.
A minimum of a Ph. D. degree in the biological sciences (or equivalent) at least one year of postdoctoral experience is required.
Experience with protein engineering and cell based assays
Qualified candidate must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this position.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team to design and conduct research experiments
Previous experience with protein engineering, mutagenesis and assay development desired.
Located in San Diego, CA.
