Job Descriptions:
The Center for English Language Learning and Assessment (ELLA) is seeking a Research Scientist. The ELLA Center conducts foundational research advancing English language learning and assessment for learners around the world and provides research support for all English language assessments including the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) family, the TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) family, and English assessments for English learners in the US.
BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide information and advice to the setting of research goals and priorities.
Generate or contribute to new or modified theories of educational and psychological processes, research methodology and analytic or interpretative procedures.
Develop and contribute to the development of new products or services for education.
Develop proposals for research projects and obtain financial support for new or continuing research activities.
Prepare initial and final proposal and project budgets.
Design and conduct complex scientific studies functioning as an expert in the major facets of the projects; respond as a subject matter expert in presenting the results of acquired knowledge and experience.
Consult and collaborate on problems arising from substantive research and/or testing programs, or corporate management concerns.
Direct and/or participate in the conduct of research projects involving a variety of management skills for staff assignment and scheduling, the monitoring of financial performance and the identification, acquisition and utilization of equipment, facilities and services.
Implement dissemination activities utilizing various methodologies to reach specific audiences.
Disseminate knowledge, particularly the results of activities through the publication of research papers, progress and technical reports, the presentation of seminars or other appropriate communication vehicles.
Promote and maintain professional relationships as a representative, consultant or advisor to external advisory or policy boards and councils, research organizations, educational institutions and educators.
Respond to requests initiated by professional colleagues and educators.
May regularly carry out administrative responsibilities related to planning and monitoring research activities in areas of interest to ETS or one of its clients.
Required Experience:
EDUCATION
A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in language testing, language education, cognitive science, psychology, or a related field is required.
EXPERIENCE
Three years of progressively independent research experience is necessary.
