The Research Scientist based out of Stromsburg, NE manages the soybean breeding program responsible for development of elite soybean varieties in maturity groups II and III. |
Develop and lead a research team to develop elite soybean varieties in maturity groups II and III. This would include building and leading a strong research team at the research center. Collaborate with other scientists to develop and implement selection strategies for developing commercial products, including the application of molecular markers and integration of new traits. Incorporate important traits for assigned regions. These would include, but not limited to, high yield, herbicide resistance, resistance to soybean cyst nematode, iron-deficiency chlorosis, Phytophthora root rot, white mold, brown stem rot and soybean aphid. Active participant on product development teams within soybean research. Provide scientific leadership and recommend technology applications to research leadership team. Work with Sales Markets to understand customer needs as well as insure that products are well understood and positioned correctly.
Education and Experience
Ph.D. degree in agronomy with specialization in Plant Breeding/Genetics/Molecular Breeding and 4-6 years of related experience are required. Support skills in statistics, plant pathology, biotechnology, and agronomy are preferred.
Must be self-motivated and possess strong interpersonal, plus verbal and written communication skills. Ability to lead, innovate and succeed in a team environment. Attention to detail, commitment to accuracy, and good organizational skills are necessary. Ability to identify improvements and willingness to continually enhance processes is critical. Experience and ability to apply molecular markers a plus. Good statistical background required.
