Job Responsibilities

A position is available immediately at the San Diego State University FACS Core facility for an operator/manager working under the supervision of the Director of the facility: Dr. Roland Wolkowicz. The position will be responsible for the FACS core facility operation and manage the overall coordination and operation of the FACS facility including the following: Experimental design and general training of new and less experienced users, supervision and verification of experienced users, analysis and sorting of cells for naive users. Cytometer operation and quality control, instrument maintenance and repair in conjunction with a BD technician. Manage the oversight of user scheduling and billing. Ensuring proper use of the machine/s by authorized users. Management of BD Service contract visits and preventative maintenance. Account management including purchasing of parts and consumables. Website updating. Coordination with laboratory PI's interested in utilizing the core.

Minimum Qualifications

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in biology or related field Two years progressively responsible experience in technical research including flow cytometry and experience as operator or manager

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of research techniques, including the planning of studies and investigations Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of a small team Ability to gather, compile, and anayze research data, and to present data clearly Strong computer, electronic and mechanical repair skills Strong ability to work with and teach others Experience with Word, Excel, analysis of data, and excellent record keeping skills Ability to work independently Must have good speaking and writing skills

M.S. preferred.

Preferred Experience/Special Skills

Specific experience with the BD FACSAria cell sorter is a strong plus.

Working Conditions

Work environment is a modern biomedical research laboratory. Some work with toxic chemicals and biohazards, under CalOSHA conditions (lab has a chemical hood, biosafety cabinets and all necessary safety equipment). Noise level is average for a research lab.
