Position Summary

The Sarver Heart Center is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease via the academic pillars of research (discovering knowledge), education (sharing knowledge) and patient care (applying knowledge). Equipped with several state-of-the-art research laboratories, the Center recruits world-class faculty and researchers to help in the discovery of the scientific advances of the future under the Molecular Cardiovascular Research Program. The latest addition to the Center is the UA College of Medicine's Medical Research Building where basic scientists are studying the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease with the goal of developing new preventive and therapeutic approaches. Applications are invited for a full time Research Specialist to assist with all documentation phases and enrollment for various cardiology clinical research protocols. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares research projects regulatory documents and reports for the conduct of human subjects research specifically related to the Institutional Review Board and Human Subjects Protection Program at the VA, R&D and the other different committees. * Processes, composes, edits, and reviews incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, reports, memoranda, regulatory documents, and other forms of written communication. * Prepare and communicate correspondences with the PO, ISO, RCO and other VA research staff as required and needed. * Performs written and oral correspondence with members of the staff, agency, and persons outside the agency ranging from other government agencies to a wide variety of outside agencies to effectively complete high demand projects. * Regularly coordinates and involves in a high-level contact with visitors and callers from such organizations as research trial sponsors, auditors, VA and public hospitals, research organizations/institutions, VA Cooperative studies, NIH (governmental regulatory organizations) and industry drug company sponsors. * Submission of local SAEs and IND safety reports to the IRB and R&D as required by the regulations and the guidelines. * Implement the different procedures as appropriate following protocol guidelines; maintain accurate documentation on required documents. * Exercises judgment in determining the appropriate approach in meeting the time critical deadlines. * Coordinate, plan and carry out assignments with principal investigators/physicians, research coordinators, industry representatives and governmental agencies. * Assist with all documentation phases and enrollment for various cardiology clinical research protocols. * Participate in all the research activities as required by the department and attend meetings as schedule permits. * Help other colleagues in the department as needed and as duties permit * Attend weekly research staff meeting and keep up with all the required GCP, Human protection and any other required training.
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
