To support JMU's and IIHHS' mission and vision to provide outreach programs to the community and provide quality experiential learning opportunities to JMU students.

Responsible for assisting with the implementation and facilitation of the Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) funded by the Administration on Children, Youth and Families in Harrisonburg City, Rockingham County and Page County. The JMUPREP initiative is a comprehensive, broad-based and collaborative effort that will emphasize both abstinence and contraception and address the adulthood preparation subjects of healthy relationships, parent-child communication, educational and career success, healthy life skills and adolescent development in order to significantly reduce the number of teen pregnancies in the Harrisonburg, Rockingham and Page area of Virginia. The initiative focuses on five priority populations: Latino youth, foster care youth, youth in the juvenile justice system, pregnant and parenting teens and siblings of pregnant and parenting teens. After full implementation the project will involve 14 community partners, 16 sites and 5,050 students.

Duties include: assist the Program Coordinator with implementation of the program; facilitate the Teen Outreach Program to participating community-based and school sites; facilitate the Draw the Line/Respect the Line program to participating schools; assist the Program Coordinator with the creation of recruitment and media materials; assist the Program Coordinator with the development of project activity ideas; collect data as required by the program and the funder; collect performance measurement data as required by the funder; prepare materials for club meetings and activities and assist with providing transportation as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Strong combination of education and experience.

Bachelor's degree in a health and human services field preferred.

Minimum of two years experience working with youth and/or facilitating youth programming.

Knowledge of adolescent development and best practices in teen pregnancy prevention.

Experience with planning effective public health education programs.

Experience with youth development and outreach.

Experience with prevention programming delivery.

Ability to relate to teens, parents and families of varying abilities and backgrounds as well as with agency professionals, school staff and community members.

Must possess good oratory, organizational, administrative and interpersonal skills.

General computer skills required and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and Publisher.

Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
