This is an off-campus position located at the Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center, Suffolk, Virginia. The position requires diagnostic and research skills that are in compliance with protocols for conducting research and records management in greenhouse, lab and field research. Responsibilities include: Carrying out day-to-day operations, planning and collecting raw data, input and analysis of data, and preparation of tables and charts to summarize data for publications and presentations.
Knowledge of techniques for culture of micro-organisms and/or molecular detection of plant pathogenic agents; Experience in the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment (microscopes, autoclave, pH meter, electronic weather data collection system, incubators, etc.); Experience in mixing chemical solutions for research, and maintaining essential expendable supplies in laboratory; Competence using computers for data entry (Excel), data analysis (SAS) and other computer software (MS Word, Power Point) for reporting results in publications and presentations; Ability to follow instructions, maintain accurate, complete records, and communicate effectively in oral and written English.
Legal ability to work in the U.S. for a minimum of 1 year; College education; Computer skills and work experience in conducting plant-related research.
