Job Description:
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute is an interdisciplinary institution dedicated to conducting basic, clinical and translational research on conditions and diseases that affect children, and is part of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania research community.

A Research Technician I is needed in the laboratory of Dr. Stewart Anderson. This position is working within the Psychiatry Research Division of the Research Institute.

The Research Technician I under general supervision assists associate professor, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students and performs research experiments, primarily involving mice, related to the embryonic and early postnatal development of the forebrain, particularly the cerebral cortex. Studies pertain to the causes and treatments of autism, schizophrenia, and epilepsy.

POSITION ACTIVITIES:
• Participates in projects relating to histology, immunohistochemistry and histochemistry.
• Performs cryostat sectioning of frozen brain sections.
• Assists with quantitative data analysis, computer entry and library search.
• Prepares reagents.
• Handles transgenic mice; maintains mouse colonies and daily husbandry.
• Extracts and genotypes DNA, and plasmid DNA preparations.
• Discusses hypotheses and clinical relevance of experiments with the supervising professor, other lab members, and presents data in lab meetings.
