The Howard Hughes Medical Institute, on the campus of the University of Iowa, is seeking an individual with experience in protein biochemistry to join the research team. The laboratory focuses on the isolation and characterization of membrane proteins in order to help determine their function in muscle and therir role in muscular dystrophy. The research technician will coordinate and conduct biochemical experiments on muscle proteins as well as deveelop amd implement innovative research procedures. This position requires the ability to perform preparatory procedures and assits staff members in surgical techniques involving animals. Individual will also train laboratory staff in the use of research techniques and instrumentation.
Assist scientists and technicians by performing various investigative procedures and operating a variety of insturments and scientific equipment.
Collect, record, organize and verify the accuracy of data
Perform calculations and prepare charts, graphs and report.
May use software applications to assemble, manipulate and/or format data, tabulate data, keep laboratory records.
May order chemicals, reagents, and other laboratory supplies.
Participate in laboratory meetings and plnning sessions.
Set-up, execute, experiments independently
Read literature applicable to research area, as required.
Record and communicate data in laboratory notebooks, written reports, and oral presentations
Report the work done and the methods used to staff scientist
Contribute to team meetings and planning

Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences required.
Knowledge of basic cell biology and/or protein biochemistry techniques.
