BioPhase Solutions specializes in recruiting top talented professionals for San Diego's Scientific community. We are currently looking for a Research Technician to work for a leading San Diego biotechnology company.
The Research Technician will be responsible for the effective implementation of in vivo procedures in the Vivarium, by providing technical expertise to support ongoing Vivarium research efforts in the Oncology, Dermatology, Pharmacology and Toxicology groups. The position will also be responsible to provide some support for all aspects of day-to-day Vivarium care, including husbandry, clean and dirty cage wash work, general up-keep, and cleaning of animal facility, daily animal health monitoring. The Research Technician will work closely with the Vivarium Manager to maintain effective operation and be involved with the routine ordering of supplies and receiving of animals. Additional responsibilities include preparation and processing of samples, study documentation, assisting with SOP development and other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide technical expertise for routine animal procedures to support assigned studies
Support scientific staff as needed to fulfill study experiments
Provide food, water, enrichment, and a clean environment for rodents in accordance with AAALAC International, USDA, and other regulatory agencies for all animal species.
Maintain the appropriate care for animals in the Vivarium. Clean and sanitize caging, caging accessories and other husbandry related equipment. Operate and maintain cage washer, autoclave, and waste management system; clean and maintain animal facility including disinfecting and sanitation of fixed equipment and designated areas.
Conduct daily health observations on all animals housed in facility.
Document all observations and activities in regards to animals and environmental conditions, including recording environmental humidity and temperatures, providing environmental enrichment, and animal health care under veterinary supervision.
Provide assistance to Principal Investigators, including special handling and animal care when approved by the supervisor
Update inventory and maintain necessary supplies in animal facility, including but not limited to feed and bedding supplies, personal protective equipment, veterinary, and general laboratory supplies.
Perform laboratory maintenance duties including, but not limited to glassware and instrument cleaning, autoclaving, and basic equipment maintenance.
Assist in development of Standard Operating Procedures; maintain appropriate record keeping as required to comply with regulatory requirements.
Procure and receive animals.
Perform routine clinical procedures on various species including animal restraint, handling, examinations, blood and tissue collection and administration of medications; sample preparation, euthanasia and necropsy.
Become proficient in the use of laboratory notebooks.
Other duties as assigned by Vivarium Supervisor.
Weekend Vivarium animal care support as needed.
Other duties as assigned by Vivarium Manager.
HS diploma or equivalent with a minimum of four yearsâ€™ experience in an animal care environment. AALAS certification is desired but not required however preference will be given to certified technicians.
Knowledge of husbandry and veterinary practices, with a desire to undergo further training.
Must be organized with excellent communication skills, observant and detail oriented.
Must be able to work independently and follow Standard Operating Procedures.
