We are currently seeking a Research Technician for WRAIR in Silver Spring, MD.
The WRAIR Department of Wound Infections is seeking a research technician to provide support to the Microbiome group. There are substantial opportunities to explore and learn in formal and informal settings. The Microbiome group is a team effort and values its team members. This position offers diversity, advancement and opportunity for self-direction.
The technician will support a range of projects in the group, to include micro fluidics, microscopy, and microbial ecology via classic microbiology, molecular methods, computational and mathematical methods, and practical engineering.
The technician will be expected to develop research protocols, grant proposals, presentations and papers in the conduct of research related to trauma-related infections; perform routine laboratory duties required for the smooth and safe operation of laboratory such as properly disposing of hazardous biological and chemical waste, maintaining equipment and preparing reagents; maintain laboratory notebooks; assist in supply management and purchasing; and develop and maintain good working relationships with other group members.
Maintain a safe workplace ensuring that he/she is aware of and observes appropriate safety and occupational health rules and regulations. Employee is required to attend safety training relative to his/her position and report any infractions of safety procedures to the facility Safety Officer.
Performs light duties and other related duties as required and assigned.
Candidates will have a BA/BS/AB degree in a field related to the life/health sciences or another degree with substantial laboratory experience relating to microbiology.
Must be able to work independently following a brief period of specific technical training.
